Sue Graham
Social Worker, MSW, RSW
I have been in the field of social work for over 25 years. I began working in a women’s shelter in 1985 where I spent 10 years counselling women who had left an abusive relationship. Many of these women had experienced years of trauma and were in need of individual and group therapy as well as education to empower them to make healthy choices for themselves and their families. During that time I also worked with men who had been abused as children or had experienced abuse in adult relationships. I then moved into the field of addictions and worked with women in a drug and alcohol residential treatment centre. I offered individual and group therapy in this area for about 7 years and then worked in an outpatient addictions treatment center where I counselled men, women and adolescents who were experiencing abuse of drugs and alcohol. I also offered therapy to family members. I then moved into the mental health field and worked with adults and adolescents with depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder and bipolar disorder as well as family members in an outpatient community agency. I have worked at the Homewood Health Center in Guelph in the eating disorder inpatient program for several years and continue to work in the field of eating disorders in an outpatient eating disorders treatment center, where I offer individual, couple, family and group therapy. I have found that the years of experience I have helping people sort through the issues they are struggling with, and overcoming many of their problematic behaviours, has been very rewarding and I continue to be committed to helping people have a more insightful and peaceful life.
